Jasper AI: Is it worth it? The Ultimate Review!

I have been using Jasper AI, an artificial intelligence content writing assistant that is supposed to help bloggers write better content, for the best part of a year now. I was eager to try it out and see how it could impact my blog writing. After using it for a while, I have to say that I am really impressed! Jasper AI is the best AI content writing assistant I have tried (and I tried quite a few). It helps you come up with ideas for articles, research topics, and many other content-generating templates including the latest – the ‘One-Shot Blog Post generator’. If you are looking for a way to increase or improve your blog writing, Jasper AI is definitely worth checking out! Having said that, Jasper AI is not the right fit for everyone. In this review, I will go over the pros and cons of Jasper AI (and much more) to help you decide if it is right for you.

I’d like to answer a couple of questions straight off the bat:

Is Jasper AI worth it?

Jasper AI is well worth the investment to:

  • increase productivity
  • generate ideas
  • create a range of high-quality content

Can Jasper completely replace your content writers?

Jasper can’t completely replace high-quality writers. No.

It can easily out-perform many cheap (human) writers but if you or your writers produce high-quality, personalized content then Jasper will need some input to match that or do better. It is a brilliant time-saving writing assistant that can increase your productivity dramatically – up to 5X faster; But, the content Jasper produces can be a bit ‘automated’ in places and needs to have you or your writers direct, edit and fact-check the output to fit your audience, adding personal experiences and ensuring that human element.

Is Jasper AI a one-click blog writing tool?

Jasper, along with all other AI content creation tools, can’t produce a ready-to-publish blog post in just one click. No.

It is a common misconception that any AI content writing tool can provide you with a fully written, ready-to-publish blog post in a click or two. On certain topics, in certain niches, it is getting closer, especially with Jasper’s new One-Shot Blog Post template, but I would always want to direct, check, edit and personalize the content before publication. It can easily out-perform much of the poor-quality content that is put out but not the great-quality blogs that you and I would want to offer our readers. It is a fantastic assistant though and I would thoroughly recommend trying it out if you are looking to increase your productivity.

Remember the good old days when you had to spend ALL of your time writing blog posts or hiring teams of writers to generate content for your website or blog? It was either very tedious or very expensive, or both. Oh, how things have changed! These days, there is help in the form of software-generated content created through artificial intelligence. In fact, in recent years this market has become flooded with companies all persuading you that their product is the best on the market. So, how do you know if this technology would be worth it for your content creation, and, if you decide to buy in, which one to choose?

I have tried quite a few AI content generators, and while there are a select few that have impressed me, Jasper AI is the one that I have ultimately chosen to subscribe to and have been a paying customer for nearly a year now.

So, if you’re looking for a comprehensive review of Jasper AI, you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post, we’ll take an in-depth look at all of the features that Jasper AI offers. We’ll also compare it to some of its competitors on the market to help you make an informed decision, and determine whether or not it’s worth your time and money. So, without further ado, let’s get started!

What is Jasper AI (previously called Conversion AI and Jarvis AI)?

Jasper AI is an artificial intelligence software writing assistant tool that specializes in machine learning. It is a language-processing system that can understand and respond to questions in natural language. It can also handle follow-up questions and keep track of conversation threads. It uses GPT-3 technology with algorithm-based predictions to produce near-human quality written content and copy.

How does Jasper Work?

Jasper AI software works by taking your short inputs and turning them into long-form, high-quality content. It’s able to do this by understanding the context of your input and then utilizing its large database of information to provide relevant content that is on topic.

From the dashboard, you can create a new project. You start by giving your project a name and then selecting the template that will produce the type of content you want to generate.

Then, you simply write or paste in a short title or sentence about what you want your article, introduction, paragraph, social media post or email etc to be about.

Choose any Keywords where appropriate and the tone of voice you would like Jasper to use (my favourites are ‘helpful’, ‘humorous’ and ‘witty’. Jasper takes that input and runs it through its machine learning algorithms which predict what would come next in the sentence. It then provides you with a few different options of what it thinks would be the best continuation of your input, allowing you to choose the one that works best. It learns from the content you have previously chosen or inputted to produce content that is more in line with your voice as it develops.

The content that AI generators use is from a web crawl and has not been recently updated so depending on your niche it may provide a wealth of relevant and accurate content, or it may only have access to a limited amount of data and outdated information in your niche. The software can’t distinguish if the facts and figures it uses are true or accurate so it needs a human to check these.

The Team Behind Jasper AI

Jasper AI is a cutting-edge artificial intelligence software company that was founded in 2021 by a team of experienced entrepreneurs in Austin, Texas. The team members who developed Jasper AI have a proven track record in the technology and software industry, and they have previously founded other successful companies such as Proof and Payfunnels after graduating through the Y Combinator. In addition to their impressive resumes, the team members also have a deep understanding of artificial intelligence and its potential applications. As a result, Jasper AI was well-positioned to become the leading player in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence market.

The Jasper Templates

The Jasper templates are the bread and butter of the software. They are what make it possible for you to generate high-quality content without having to put in a lot of effort. The templates are designed to produce a specific type of content, such as an article, social media post, or email.

To use a template, you simply select the template that you want to use from the dashboard and then input a short title or sentence about what you want your content to be about. From there, Jasper AI will take over and generate the content for you.

The templates are constantly being updated and improved by the Jasper AI team. As a result, you can expect the quality of your content to increase over time as the software gets better at understanding your needs and preferences.

One-Shot Blog Post (beta)

I wanted to mention this first even though it’s very new and still in Beta, as I think this is what has been missing from the Jasper templates until now.

If you’re looking to generate a high-quality blog post quickly, the One-Shot Blog Post template could be a great option. With this template, you simply need to provide a short input (a title or sentence) about what you want your blog post to be about, and Jasper AI will generate a short (300 – 500 word) well-written full blog post for you from start to finish. To lengthen your article you can take each subheading from the post and ask Jasper to create a one-shot blog post on each of those until you have the length of content you want. My feeling is that it is similar in quality to its competitors, although the generated content tends to be less spurious and more consistent than some of its rivals. Having said that, the output is too short to be truly considered a truly one-shot blogpost. Having used it several times I think the long-form assistant with its commands and power mode is more effective for me. As it’s only being tested at the moment I’m convinced that the Jasper team will be tweaking it until it is out-performing its competitors significantly and consistently.

I like that the team at Jasper are continually developing the software and new features are being added regularly. They listen to feedback and use this to inform their development of the tools.

What is Boss-Mode in Jasper AI?

Jasper’s Boss-Mode is the premium plan and it unlocks a whole load of extra features, with the long-form content writer being one of the most popular. Here’s what you get with Boss-Mode.

Long-form content writer

Jasper’s long-form content writer is a great tool for creating in-depth blog posts, articles, and even eBooks. It’s easy to use and you can get started with just a few clicks.

Simply open the Blog Post Workflow and describe the content you want to create together with any keywords you want to include. You can enter a title or Jasper will suggest some title ideas based on your description and keywords. Jasper can generate introduction paragraphs to choose from and then generate the main body of content, bit by bit, for you to check, modify or add further content or commands. I like that you can steer the direction of the content if you want to so that you don’t waste a whole article’s worth of word credits if it hasn’t generated what you hoped for (which is the case with many of Jasper’s competitors).

50,000 Words credits/month (with the option to increase to 100,000 or more)

I initially thought that this was a massive word allowance but if you are writing say a 1500-word article, it is easy to get through 2000 words or more as you often generate more than one output and I often ask Jasper to rewrite parts of the content. When I first started with Jasper I used up my 50,000 words as I was letting Jasper give me 3 or 4 outputs at a time so that I could choose the best one. After a little practice, you get more adept at choosing the best tools within Jasper to create the type of content output you want. Also, your inputs and commands become more effective as you learn how Jasper works so you don’t waste your word credits as much. Jasper also learns from your content and seems to produce much better outputs as it gets to know you.

3,000 Character Lookback

Jasper ‘looks back’ at the last 3000 characters of your content to inform the next output (in the starter plan it’s 600 characters). This can help to improve the context of the output. In the long-form assistant, I like to edit as I go, a paragraph at a time so that I can delete or add any content that might help Jasper improve what is produced next.

Command Jasper

You can give Jasper commands like ‘write a story about winning a game of football’, ‘Write a negative review of the album 30 by Adele’, or ‘write a paragraph about why dogs wag their tail’.

It is great to use to get started with a blog post or to add things in the middle like ‘write 3 reasons you should buy a pressure washer’.

Jasper will then create a piece of content based on these commands. You can also give Jasper general instructions like ‘make this funny’!

Recipes

Recipes are a set of Jasper commands that you can use to generate content for specific types of outputs. For example, in addition to the blog post recipe, there is a recipe for writing product reviews, another for writing listicles and another for creating social media posts.

To use a recipe you simply select the recipe, enter your content input and then click generate.

You can also edit the recipe to change the wording or add more commands. There is a selection of done-for-you recipes and you can also create, save, and share recipes with others in the Jasper community.

SEO Mode

The SEO Mode in Jasper is designed to help you write content that is optimized for Google and other search engines.

To use SEO Mode, simply enter your target keyword(s) in the Keywords box and then click generate.

Jasper will then create a piece of content using the keyword(s) to help you rank in Google or other search engines.

Jasper also integrates with Surfer SEO (which you buy separately). I highly recommend Surfer SEO anyway, but using the integrated tool allows you to produce highly optimized content within Jasper which I find is more efficient.

Plagiarism Checker Access

Jasper usually produces plagiarism-free content however there is always a small chance that it may have used previously published content in a section of its output. I have found this to be rare but to avoid this Jasper can integrate with Copyscape (bought separately) to check your content for plagiarism.

It is great for making sure that your content is unique and not copied from somewhere else on the web. Grammarly also has a plagiarism checker as part of its paid-for subscription options and it can be used with Jasper (see below).

Grammarly

Jasper also integrates with Grammarly. The free basic version is automatically available, or you can also use the premium version (which you have to buy separately). I would recommend Grammarly anyway, but using the integrated tool allows you to produce error-free content within Jasper.

To use the Grammarly integration, simply click the ‘Enable Grammarly’ button in the ‘Settings’ tab.

This will then send your content to Grammarly for checking and you can make the changes within Jasper.

25+ Supported Languages and Dialects

With Jasper, you can choose from over 25 input languages and then have Jasper automatically translate your content into one of the 25 supported output languages.

This is great if you want to write content in your native language but then have it automatically translated into another language for a different audience.

  1. You can also choose from a variety of dialects to make sure that your content sounds natural to your readers.

Priority Chat Support

  1. If you need help with using Jasper or have any questions, you can contact the team via the Priority Chat Support.
  2. You can also join the community forum to ask questions, share recipes, and connect with other Jasper users.

What is Jasper Art? (Add-on, $20 per month)

The newest AI offering from Jasper is an art/image creation tool. It makes it possible to generate unique images from your inputs to use in your content or as a freelancer. It is available as an add-on to either the Starter or Boss-Mode plan and is at an introductory price of $20 per month per user for unlimited use for a limited time.

I am amazed at the images it can create from the prompts you supply. They are really unique and high quality but understanding how to prompt the software to produce what is in your mind is a bit of a trial and error procedure. I’m sure that with practice this would become quicker and easier! I was mesmerized by the results even though it took time fiddling with the prompts and style to produce something like I had envisaged.

The actual procedure couldn’t be simpler:

  1. Write a prompt
  2. Select a style
  3. Generate your image

Jasper AI Bootcamp

  1. If you want to learn more about how to use Jasper then I would highly recommend the Jasper AI Bootcamp.
  2. The Bootcamp is a series of video tutorials and case studies that show you how to get the most out of Jasper.
  3. I have completed the Bootcamp myself and it is really helpful in learning how to use all of the features in Jasper.
  4. If you are looking for a very quick tutorial specifically for the template you are using – Jasper has a library of video tutorials to help you with this!
  5. There is also a very active and supportive Facebook group that can help with most things and if all else fails you can contact the Jasper chat support team who are friendly and helpful.

Who could benefit from using Jasper AI

  • Bloggers who want to speed up their content creation dramatically or eliminate writer’s block.
  • Freelance writers who need a portfolio of content to promote their services, or want to speed up their content production.
  • Digital marketing agencies who want to use AI tools to assist with content production for clients. The templates within Jasper allow for a wide range of services to be offered.
  • Content producers concerned with SEO can optimize their work with keywords or use the surfer integration for fully optimized content.
  • Social Media Managers and copywriters can make use of the specialist templates for their copy.
  • Amazon or e-commerce product content writers.
  • Small business owners who want assistance with blog creation, copywriting or an email campaign.

Jasper AI’s competitors/alternatives

There are a few alternatives to Jasper AI that offer similar features, such as Copy.AI, Article Forge and WriteSonic. I think I must have tried nearly all the software that had a free trial, plus a couple that didn’t. The truth is I ended up choosing Jasper but there were some features of the others which I liked. They all do a similar job because almost all use the same GPT-3 technology but Jasper came out on top for reasons I’ll outline after mentioning a few of the best Jasper alternatives.

Copy.ai

I had to mention Copy.AI because I enjoyed using the platform and it now has ongoing FREE MONTHLY CREDITS which I still take advantage of on occasion. Unfortunately, these are not quite enough to get you a whole blog post in the workflow, which includes set-up and talking points before it gets going on the main content. I was really impressed with some of the content it generated but the quality was not consistent. On some blog posts, I wasted a lot of credits on very poor quality generation and you don’t get the chance to manipulate the text, as you go along, in the same way as you do in Jasper. The lazy part of me enjoyed all of the content just appearing before my eyes but I prefer the control that Jasper gives you in Boss-Mode. Copy.AI would have been my 2nd choice after Jasper but I felt that Jasper’s flexibility during the content generation in Boss-Mode made the platform a better choice for long-form content creation.

Rytr

A great affordable option for those who want a short-form generator, they seem to offer a lot of ad copy templates and the output is pretty good too. It has an unlimited plan which is great if you want to generate a lot of content and their freemium offering is generous at 10,000 characters per month and covers all of the templates. Their long-form editor just didn’t quite make the mark compared to the output quality and flexibility of Jasper but at the price, it was a great contender.

WriteSonic

Writesonic is a worthy competitor for Jasper AI. The output was pretty good and probably on par with Jasper for short-form content. Once again I liked the idea of the long-form generator creating a 1500-word article straight off, but I really missed the chance to change the direction or focus of the article as it was being created. Some of the long-form articles I created with WriteSonic needed only a little editing and some personalization while others just weren’t on point and were scrapped. Maybe with more training and practice my inputs would get better, leading to WriteSonic creating articles nearer to what I was hoping for. WriteSonic has over 70 templates and if you would use many of them, it may be a better alternative to Jasper. I think if most of my content were short-form then I might have chosen WriteSonic over Jasper due to the great quality and cheaper price.

Article Forge (best for bulk content creation)

I’ve included Article forge because I was amazed at the amount of content it created in a short time. It does not use GPT-3 and it is definitely aimed at quantity over quality but I used some of the content it generated, ran it through Jasper to increase the quality, and once edited the articles were perfectly fine. I don’t think that it is a direct competitor to Jasper as the output quality is poorer and its biggest strength is its ability to produce content in bulk.

Why choose Jasper AI?

I chose Jasper AI because:

  • It produced the best content almost all of the time compared to its competitors.
  • It had a lot of good reviews from industry experts, or they viewed it as the best available.
  • It had the right range of content templates/styles for my needs (and more besides).
  • I like the way it can be redirected mid-article in the long-form template with the edited content forming the basis of the next outputs.
  • The platform is very user-friendly.
  • The support is excellent, from video tutorials, a helpful and supportive 66,000+ strong Facebook community, and quick response chat support.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is Jasper AI any good?

After using Jasper for a while and trying out a bunch of other software, I can say that Jasper is the best content creation tool available right now. It’s not perfect, but it’s head and shoulders above the competition and I am very happy with my Boss-Mode subscription.

Is there an unlimited Jasper Plan?

No, currently there is no unlimited plan for Jasper. The Boss-Mode plan is the highest tier and it gives you access to all the features and integrations that Jasper offers.

Will using AI content lead to google penalties?

One of the benefits of using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate content is that it can help you create unique and compelling content at scale. However, there is some concern that Google may penalize sites that use AI-generated content.

If you are publishing unchecked, unedited, mass produced AI content then the Google algorithm can probably pick up some AI content. There is no clear evidence that this is the case, but it is worth considering if you are thinking about using AI to generate content for your site.

Using a high performing AI tool like Jasper which produces near human content makes the likelihood of Google identifying your content as AI much lower.

Of course, you should always look over your content before you publish it to make sure that it is high quality, on topic, and has a personal feel that will resonate with your audience.

If you do decide to use AI-generated content, be sure to closely monitor your site’s traffic and ranking to ensure that you are not being penalized by Google.

Do’s and Don’ts of using Jasper AI

Do’s

  • Make sure to edit and revise the content that Jasper produces. While it is good at generating content, it is not perfect and you will likely need to make some changes.
  • Fact check your content carefully. I try to give Jasper the facts in the inputs or at the beginning and ask the software to create content around that.
  • Add in a few details that make the article more ‘human’ or personal.
  • Monitor your site’s traffic and ranking if you use Jasper to generate content to ensure that you are not being penalized by Google.
  • Use Jasper to generate ideas for content. It can be a great way to come up with new ideas that you may not have thought of on your own.
  • Take advantage of the training within Jasper.

Don’ts

  • Don’t rely solely on Jasper to generate your content. Always revise and edit the output to ensure that it is high quality and accurate.
  • Give up after your first try. It takes some time to get used to Jasper and how it works. You will quickly begin to understand what inputs work best and Jasper will learn which outputs you like.

So far, reviews of Jasper AI have been positive, with many people praising its accuracy and ease of use.

The company offers a free trial, so you can try it out before deciding if it’s right for you.
